Welcome to the Appleton and Besselsleigh Women’s Institute.
Did you know that the National Federation of Women’s Institutes has over 250,000 members in England and Wales? It is a non-secretarian, non-political organisation. Following the NFWI’s Centenary celebrations of 2015, our own WI will be 90 years old in 2016. We think that we might be the second oldest organisation in the village, after the Bell-ringers.
To mark our 90th birthday we are holding an Anniversary Dinner in April 2016 at the Frilford Heath Golf and Country Club .
Appleton WI is a member of the Matthew Arnold Group comprising Institutes in nearby villages, and belongs to the Oxfordshire Federation of WI’s based in Tackley. With the WI Denman College only a few miles away in Marcham, we are lucky to be able to take advantage of last minute offers on talks, courses and events there.
Some of our members have also attended longer courses on various subjects. The college is also open to non-members.
With a membership nearing 40, our meetings in Appleton Village Hall are held on the third Thursday in the month at 7.30 pm. During a year we have a range of speakers, including some which are open for all the village, and we organise a Village Supper, outings, a week-end holiday and lunches, as well as supporting local charities – and we are always ready to help in village events. Details of our monthly meetings are included in the Appleton Advertiser.
New members and visitors are always welcome and transport can be arranged.
